It Takes a Village To Raise a Child

Tansi  Westman Foster Families

Hope you are all well and enjoying getting back into the routine now that Spring Break is over.  I would like to congratulate the Westman Foster Parent Association for their fine work in organizing the Culture and Diversity Workshop.  It appeared to be well attended and I am hearing very good things about the discussions that went on.  I appreciated that so many of you took time out of your busy schedules to learn more about this important topic.

Our agency is looking forward to hosting a Westman Foster Parent Association meeting in May and I know Jody Van Daele is busy with preparations.

Take care and Happy Easter to you all.

Respectfully,

Lisa Ramsay

Celebration Of Our Youth Turning 18 and Transitioning From Care

On January 30, 2007, The Métis Child Family and Community Services Agency held its first celebration in honour of our youth who turned 18 and transitioned out of care. The agency is very excited about this event and will continue to host similar events three times per year to honour the youth in our agency’s care.

A total of six youth were honoured and had an opportunity to invite social workers, friends and family to attend. There were a total of 55 people in attendance including special guests. Some of the guests in attendance were: Alana Brownlee, Executive Director, Judy Mayer, on behalf of President Chartrand, and MMF portfolio for MCFCS, Mitch Bourbonniere, the MCFCS Board Chair, Lisa Champagne, the CEO Métis Authority and Marie Christian the Manitoba Youth in Care Network Coordinator.

Each youth was presented with a Métis Sash, pin and key rope and will also receive a framed photograph of themselves and a small album of pictures

All guests participated in a feast of bannock and stew, coffee, tea, soft drinks and celebration cake. Inspirational speeches were delivered by two young adults, Maria Starr and Darryl Caribou. Photographer Scott Stephens was present to take pictures of the youth, guests and others in attendance. Entertainment was provided and magician Donny Sanderson was on hand to WOW the crowd.

Thanks to all who planned and participated in this special event.
