A Summer BBQ to Remember: Celebrating Métis Children and Families

This summer, Métis Child, Family, and Community Services (MCFCS) hosted a vibrant and heartwarming BBQ event, bringing together children in care, their caregivers, families, and community members for a day filled with laughter, connection, and celebration. Under the warmth of the summer sun, the air was filled with the sounds of children’s laughter, Métis fiddle music, and the smell of delicious food sizzling on the grill. It was a day dedicated to joy, culture, and community—one that will be remembered for years to come.

One of the highlights of the event was the thrilling carnival rides, where children eagerly lined up to experience the excitement of spinning teacups, a bouncy castle, and the ever-popular inflatable obstacle course. Their smiles and cheers were a testament to the pure joy of the day. Meanwhile, the face-painting station was a hit, transforming little faces into beautiful butterflies, fierce tigers, and Métis-inspired designs. Watching the kids run around, showing off their freshly painted faces with pride, was truly a heartwarming sight.

Dancing was another central part of the day’s festivities, with lively Métis jigging performances that had everyone clapping along to the beat. Some children even joined in, twirling and stepping in time with the music as Elders and community members cheered them on. The energy was infectious, and it was incredible to witness children and families embracing this important part of Métis culture with such enthusiasm. The spirit of togetherness was alive in every step and every note played by the musicians.

Of course, no summer gathering is complete without food, and this BBQ did not disappoint! Everyone enjoyed a feast of hamburgers, hot dogs, fresh fruit, and sweet treats, all prepared with love by dedicated volunteers. Sitting together under the shade of the trees, sharing meals, and swapping stories made the day even more special. It was a beautiful reminder that food has a way of bringing people together, strengthening bonds, and creating cherished memories.

We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who made this event possible. To the incredible volunteers who worked tirelessly to set up, cook, serve, and ensure that everything ran smoothly—thank you for your dedication and kindness. To the staff of MCFCS, whose commitment to the well-being of children and families is unwavering, we are endlessly grateful for your hard work. Your efforts do not go unnoticed, and events like this showcase the love and care you pour into the community every single day.

Most importantly, thank you to the children and families who joined us, bringing their energy, laughter, and beautiful spirits to the celebration. Seeing the happiness on the children’s faces was the greatest reward of all. This summer BBQ was more than just an event—it was a gathering of community, a celebration of Métis culture, and a reminder of the importance of coming together to uplift and support one another. We look forward to many more moments like this in the future!
